Oh, how man has fallen. Created in the image of God, but we fell from our place of honor. Sin came into the world through one man. Indeed, this saying is true, “none is righteous, no, not one.” For we have all fallen and deserve nothing more than eternal death. Sin is our way of life. No one is worthy of living since, “the wages of sin is death.” Therefore, God would be justified to kill us all where we stand. For that is nothing more than we deserve. “No one does good, not even one.” Even the things that we do that might be seen as right living are worthless because of our sin. We can never do enough good works to enter the kingdom of heaven for even one single sin creates a chasm between us and God that cannot be crossed by any means that we possess. It is hopeless.
Yet God did not leave us to die. You see, despite our rebellion, He loves us. He doesn’t want this chasm to be between us. So, from before the beginning of the world, He made a plan. He knew we would fall, and He knew we would not be able to return to Him on our own. He promised that He would raise up a man to come save the world. “Born of a virgin,” this man would live a life without sin. He would be “pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities.” He would take our place of punishment and “by his wounds we are healed.” This man would take upon himself the sins of the world for he “bore the sins of many.” He was to be called Immanuel.
The man that God would raise up from the line of David was Jesus and He would be the Messiah or “anointed one.” He fulfilled all the prophecies that were set forth hundreds—and in some cases, thousands—of years before His birth. All 300 plus prophecies were fulfilled to the letter. No other man could be the Messiah that the Old Testament wrote about. He came with a message, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” “Repent” means to turn away from the evil that you have done and continue to do. Instead, turn towards the God of the universe who loves you. And He demonstrated His love for us in that “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Our God has declared the way to Him, “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Therefore, I call you to repent! Turn from your sin and into the life that God has promised those who believe in His Son! For He has said, “Behold, I am coming soon.” The day of His return is hastening toward us as is written, “The day of Yahweh is near, and as destruction from the Almighty it comes.” So, do not be idle in choosing to follow Him. He only delays this day because he does not, “wish that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” He is coming soon for His church. And the day of wrath comes soon, and believers are not to experience that day since, “God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” I implore you to be found in Christ on that day. That you obtain salvation instead of wrath. For Jesus says, “Surely, I am coming soon.”
